About Me
About me
Hi there! I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember, and have always had an affinity for animals. To me, they have a soul or spirit which I try to bring out in my paintings.

I have painted in many different mediums: oil, pastels, coloured pencil and acrylics, and loved them all. I avoided watercolour, because it is notoriously difficult to control. But, after deciding to take on the challenge of watercolour, I realised that its unpredictability is precisely what makes it such an expressive medium. In a mysterious way, the artist works in collaboration with the water - which wants to do its own thing - making the painter not quite in control. However, if you play along with the water, some unpredictable results can actually become essential components of the painting, helping to give the work its character.

When painting an animal, as with painting a person, I strive to get the best likeness possible and to bring out their essential personality. I especially love painting the expression on animals, which means concentrating on the eyes which hold so much meaning. I am constantly juggling commitment to realism with the beautiful effects that watercolour can unexpectedly produce.

I live and work in the leafy outskirts of London. Please get in touch if you would like to chat about having your very own portrait of your pet painted by me.
